GILBERT, Ariz. – Gilbert police have arrested a man they say squeezed his 2-year-old son to death.
Jonathan Ray Cole, 25, is facing first-degree murder and child abuse charges.
Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to an extended-stay hotel near Guadalupe Road and Country Club Drive for a report of a child not breathing. Officers found the boy unresponsive and observed injuries on his body.
The child was flown to Cardon Children's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to court paperwork, during questioning Cole said he wanted to be taken to jail then admitted to holding his son, Alex, against his chest and squeezing him until he stopped breathing.
Cole reportedly said he did this because he was frustrated that Alex would not go to sleep and because he was angry at his wife.
