PHOENIX – Police are asking for the public's help identifying a person of interest in a murder in north Phoenix.

Valentin Higuerra was found shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Bell Road and Tatum Boulevard just before 8 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said they heard gunshots 30 minutes before the 26-year-old was found.

Investigators obtained video from a surveillance camera at a nearby Walmart taken just prior to the fatal shooting. Police are trying to identify a man seen on the video in order to speak with him. The person of interest is a white male, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall and 150 to 160 pounds. He has brown hair, blue eyes and was wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans.

Police believe he may have information about the shooting.

“There were two Hispanic males that were involved in the shooting,” said Sgt. Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Department. “This third individual that we believe was present also, that we're releasing this video on, is at this time a person of interest, somebody who we believe has information about what occurred.”

Anyone with information about the person of interest or the shooting is asked to contact police at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
