PHOENIX – The mother of a Tempe child who has been missing for nearly two years has been found incompetent to stand trial.

A judge said Friday that Elizabeth Johnson will be put back into treatment for 13 months.

Johnson's son, Gabriel, was 8 months old when he disappeared in December 2009.

Police said Johnson fled with her son to San Antonio. Texas. That’s the last place the baby was seen alive.

While on the run, Johnson sent text messages to the baby's father, Logan McQueary, saying she had killed the baby and put his body in a Dumpster. She later recanted her claims and said she gave the baby to a couple she met at a park in San Antonio.

A handful of medical experts have examined Johnson to see whether she's mentally fit to assist in her defense and stand trial.
