County attorney weighing charges against teen arrested for school threatPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery says his office is looking at the case against a 14-year-old student who allegedly posted on YouTube that he planned to go on a killing spree at his former middle school.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the post, which was made in the comment section of a YouTube video of a popular song: "tomorrow 9/27/11 i will go on a KILLING SPREE unless someone contacts arizonas police officials i dont want to do this and after im done i will kill myself. my adress is 3106 N. 129th lane AVONDALE, AZ I GO TO A SCHOOL CALLED WIGWAM CREEK AND IM IN 8TH GRADE PPL WILL DIE."
That post was written under the moniker "BIGSMURFELMO."
"BIGSMURFELMO" later posted "wow sorry bout that my stupid frend at school was listening to this at school and i logged off but he knows my username and etc…"
The address listed by the teen doesn't even exist and the student in question hasn't attended the school since March.
Detectives are looking into the validity of the threat.
Montgomery said his office is reviewing the case and hopes to have a charging decision within the week.
"We're looking at it. The juvenile is in custody, we did receive the submission, we're reviewing it for charging," Montgomery said. "It depends on the scope of the threat, the degree to which that threat could be carried out."
The teen was arrested Tuesday at his grandparents North Phoenix home, where he apparently lived. 3TV visited the home twice but no one inside would come to the door.
