Car hits moped, semi truck in Phoenix; 2 killed

PHOENIX -- Two people were killed and another was critically injured in a three-vehicle collision in southwest Phoenix Wednesday afternoon.

A car was driving erratically on Southern Avenue near 63rd Avenue when it hit a man on a moped shortly before 3 p.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department. The car then slammed head-on into a semi truck.

Both occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The moped rider was transported to a trauma center in critical condition.

The victims' names have not been released.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office was investigating the crash.
