Turf Paradise opens this weekendPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Turf Paradise opens on Saturday, Oct. 1 for its 56th year, and it’s getting off to a strong start for very excited fans!
In addition to Opening Day, next Monday race-goers will score some great deals in honor of Columbus Day. Those deals include $2 draft beer and $1 grandstand admission.
Turf Paradise has been going strong since 1954, making Valley history as the first organized professional sports franchise in Arizona. It is now the third largest sports attraction in the state and holds court to one of the longest seasons of Thoroughbred racing in the country.
Turf Paradise General Manager Vince Francia says every year the energy that comes with Opening Day gets more and more exciting. A woman by the name of Vicky Baze is one of many who will be taking part in this year’s Opening Day. Baze, 46, is a jockey who racked up her 2,000th career win in March. This major milestone came more than 25 years after Baze won her first race at the now-defunct Longacres Peak near Seattle.
The Turf Paradise races show in 2,000 locations in 40 different countries.
Turf Paradise offers a place for everyone. From their fine dining, VIP, Directors’ & Turf Club to their Grandstand & Park Pavilion filled with concessions, there’s fun for all!
Nestled in the area of 15th Avenue and Bell Road, Turf Paradise is surrounded by lushly landscaped grounds and beautiful mountain ranges.
Track officials guarantee folks will be thrilled by the heart-pounding excitement of live thoroughbred racing and will think they are truly in paradise.
