Tucson road projects: 8th Street drainage; Cushing Street bridge; La Canada striping

TUCSON, Ariz. -- An upcoming construction project aims to improve drainage on 8th Street.

And Thursday night the public had a chance to weigh in.

The 8th Street drainage project will mean 6th Avenue will be re-striped for two-way travel between 6th and 7th Street.

"This project is going to be very beneficial for the neighborhood and the community. it's going to minimize flooding. it's going to mitigate any of that we've seen in the past," said Jesse Gutierrez from the Tucson Department of Transportation.

The project is set to start late September early October and last until next year.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Some progress to show Thursday on the Cushing Street Bridge project.

Work crews this morning lowered a large 155 ft. re-bar cage for a support column.

The bridge will be used for the Tucson Modern Streetcar as well and bikes, cars and pedestrians. 

Linking west side neighborhoods with the project costs $6.5 million and is expected to be completed by April of next year downtown.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Road construction on La Canada is nearly complete.

Thursday crews were striping the roadway which they expect to complete by Friday afternoon.

The stretch of La Canada, between Ina and Calle Concordia will be dedicated on September 29.

The project is part of the Regional Transportation Authority that voters passed in 2006.
