Tucson couple reveals secret after repeal of don't ask, don't tellPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell" is also leading to the end of an eleven-year secret for one gay Tucson couple.
Navy Lieutenant Gary Ross and his partner, Dan Swezy, married at midnight in Duxbury, Vermont.
Ross' job as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy caused the couple to keep their relationship a well-guarded secret.
"Don't ask, don't tell" was a military policy requiring those serving not to discuss their sexual orientation.
Ross said having to keep silent was ironic considering the job.
"In a profession where you're supposed to have honor courage and commitment except that there's a law that says you must lie about your sexual orientation," said Navy Lieutenant Gary Ross.
The couple was married at the same place where the first legal same sex marriage in Vermont was performed.
