Grand Canyon, other parks offer free entrancePosted: Updated:
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) -- Visitors headed to the Grand Canyon this Saturday will get in for free.
The Grand Canyon is joining other parks in celebration of national public lands day, which began in 1994 as a way to encourage outdoor activity.
Volunteers and staff at the Grand Canyon will be working to restore native plants and control exotic ones.
Visitors who remain in the park beyond Saturday will have to pay the fee for the remainder of their stay.
The waiver applies only to entrance fees and doesn't affect fees for camping, tours and other activities.
Other fee-free days are scheduled for the Veteran's Day weekend in November.
