John Hays, SCC Floodplain Coordinator, says in the aftermath of several devastating forest and wildfires in Santa Cruz County, there remains concern about the possibility of flooding.   He says in some cases, the land contours have been permanently altered, meaning some new areas may be susceptible to runoff and flooding, while others previously prone to flooding may not be.  Hays says the potential for flooding will remain for years because it takes a long time for trees and other natural barriers to return.
