SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a Scottsdale man early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the intersection of Hayden and Thomas roads at about 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian who had been struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Witnesses told officers a silver pickup truck, possibly a Chevy Silverado, was headed southbound on Hayden Road when it struck Daniel Pollack who was standing in the striped median, which is not a crosswalk.

Police say Pollack, 31, was about 450 feet north of the intersection when he was struck.

Witnesses say the driver did not stop and continued traveling southbound.

Pollack was taken to the hospital where he died.

Investigators are asking for anyone with information on this case to contact Scottsdale police.

Pollack's father, real estate executive and philanthropist Michael Pollack, issued the following statement:

"On a day that is a tragic reminder for thousands of American families, today has become an  even  more tragic and sad day for our family.  Last night my oldest son Daniel was killed in an apparent hit and run in Scottsdale. He had his whole life in front of him. He was a wonderful son and a wonderful part of our family and team at Pollack Real Estate Investments. I hope and trust law enforcement will do everything in its power to find the people that fled the scene so all the facts can be known and justice can best be served.  We encourage anyone who may have any information about what happened on Hayden Road, just north of Thomas at approximately 1:15AM, to please call authorities.

"My wife Cheryl, my entire family and I deeply appreciate the many kind words and condolences that have already been received,  but as any mother or father knows losing a son is not an easy thing to talk about.  We appreciate whatever privacy can be offered as we work through a day we never thought would come."
