1 Wounded, several detained in overnight shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – Police have detained several people in connection with an overnight shooting at a Valero gas station that put one man in the hospital.
It happened at about 12:30 a.m. Friday at 32nd and Roosevelt streets.
According to police, a group of men were walking out of the convenience store as another group was walking in.
It’s not exactly clear how it started, but words were exchanged. That escalated into an altercation that ended in gunfire.
A 26-year-old male was wounded in the shooting. He reportedly was in critical condition when he was taken to Maricopa Medical Center.
Police have detained several people. Detectives are questioning them to try and determine if they were involved in the shooting.
Investigators were still at the gas station and convenience store at 8 a.m., nearly eight hours after the incident.
Police have not released the name of the victim nor have they said anything about a potential suspect.
Eastbound Roosevelt Street east of 32nd Street was closed while detectives were on the scene.
