Shots fired at DPS officers

PHOENIX - A shooter is on the run after firing at several officers overnight Monday.

Around 3 a.m., two Phoenix police officers and two officers from the Department of Public Safety were at a traffic stop near the I-17 and Indian School Road.

During the stop, someone fired about 12 shots in the direction of the officers.

DPS officers chased after a Chevy Avalanche they thought the gunfire came from and found it abandoned.

According to DPS, this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

"This is actually a relatively frequent occasion in this area," said Sgt. Thomas Simon. "And it's very rare we're ever able to identify a suspect because they fire rounds and they flee quickly."

No one was hit by the gunfire and no officers fired back.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.
