PHOENIX - A woman was taken into custody after reportedly admitting to dropping her baby while intoxicated following a fight with her boyfriend.

Analyssa Andrea Meringer, 24, allegedly dropped her 6-month-old son while trying to leave a home she shares with her boyfriend in the 9600 block of S. Sunnyslope.

Officers responded to the apartment Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m. after a 911 hang-up call from the residence.

When officers arrived on scene they made contact with the suspect’s boyfriend identified as Brandon Chase. He reportedly told the officers his girlfriend was drunk and had dropped their baby on the ground while she was trying to leave.

Police say Meringer was having difficulty standing up straight and had slurred speech and watery eyes. She also reportedly had a difficult time focusing on the officer’s questions.

There were two red marks above the baby’s left eye and on his left cheek. She initially told police her boyfriend had struck the baby and herself.

Fire personnel were called to evaluate the baby’s injuries after the officers noticed a lump and bruising had developed over the baby’s eye. Meringer reportedly admitted to fire crews that she had dropped the baby as she tried to leave the house.

She agreed to have her grandmother watch her son due to her intoxicated. As one of the officers left with the child Meringer asked to say goodbye to her son.

She allegedly pulled on the officer’s arm and was pulled back by another officer to prevent further injury to the child.

The suspect is accused of lunging at the officer and kicking him several times after she had fallen to the ground. She continued to resist officers’ attempts to handcuff her.

The officers were not hurt and Meringer was taken into custody and booked. She faces charges including aggravated assault on an officer, aggravated assault on a firefighter or EMT medic and endangering the life or health of a minor.
