Amazon hiring hundreds at job fair Thursday

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Thousands of Arizonans are pounding the pavement looking for work. If you’re one of them and you like working on your feet, there are hundreds of full-time seasonal jobs at the fulfillment center in Goodyear and there’s a job fair Thursday to fill them.

Arizona’s unemployment rate continues to hover above 9 percent. It was 9.4 percent as of July, which was just slightly higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent. has good news for at least some of those people who are looking for jobs. The company has between 400 and 600 full-time positions available for the holiday season. Those jobs start in October.

Adecco, an employment-placement company, is hosting Thursday’s job fair to find people to fill those positions as forklift operators, pickers, packers and shippers. There are also some positions in receiving.

This is not sedentary work. Employees spend most of their time on their feet and will walk the equivalent of 10 to 15 miles per shift in the warehouse.

“We’re looking for people who enjoy working in a warehouse environment,” explained Sheri Perkins of Adecco. “It’s a great, great company with great opportunities. We offer full benefits for our people after one week of service.”

Positions pay $11 for the day shift and $11.75 for the night shift.

Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or a GED, a valid driver's license and must be able to prove that they are legally eligible to work in the U.S. In addition, Adecco will do both a background check and a drug test.

The job fair is taking place at Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way, Goodyear, but there are some things you need to do prior to heading there.
