Davis-Monthan Operations Center not moving, jobs retained; Job Corps speech to youngstersPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- More than 250 jobs at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base are safe now that the Air Force dropped plans to consolidate units.
Congresswoman Gabby Giffords' office says they and Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup had a hand in persuading pentagon officials not to consolidate those units.
And there was a jobs speech Monday from Arizona Representative Raul Grijalva.
The Congressman was visiting Tucson's Job Corps and gave a speech to the youngsters about the American dream still being alive. Grijalva says he enjoys talking with the students every year.
"Job Corps is one of the premier education workforce department of labor programs in the country and I've been coming here for 5 years," said Representative Raul Grijalva.
The next challenge for Grijalva and Congress will be dealing with a planned jobs proposal from the president and the debt ceiling.
