Father arrested, teen sons charged after fight in Gilbert parkPosted: Updated:
GILBERT, Ariz. – A Gilbert father is under arrest for allegedly encouraging his two sons to fight another teen and threatening those who witnessed it with a gun.
Gabriel Conde, 33, is facing a variety of charges in the wake of Tuesday afternoon’s incident. His two sons are also being charged as minors.
Police were called to a park near Val Vista Drive and Elliot Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. That’s where witnesses told them what had happened.
According to investigators, Conde took his 14-year-old and 17-year-old sons to the park to fight a 16-year-old boy.
The 14-year-old reportedly went in first, but when he started losing, Conde allegedly sent the older boy in to help. At one point, both teens, allegedly coached by their father, were hitting the 16-year-old. Witnesses said the 17-year-old was holding down the other boy while his brother hit and kicked him in the jaw. The 16-year-old ended up with a broken jaw.
At some point, others who were at the park and saw the fight tried to intervene. Police said Conde pulled out a gun and warned them off.
A short time after that, Conde and his boys returned to their Gilbert home and refused to come outside.
Police set up a perimeter. Conde eventually came out on his own and was taken into custody without further incident.
Conde was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, threatening and intimidating, disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
His two sons are being charged in Maricopa County Juvenile Court. Both face counts of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct in the form of fighting.
