Woman gets big refund from air conditioning contractorPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – 3 On Your Side has an update on a Phoenix woman who says an air conditioning company took her money and took off.
Linda Payne thought she was out $2,100. However, after contacting 3 On Your Side, we were able to turn up the heat and get her money back.
"When you want a job done. Gary Harper is the guy to go to."
Linda Payne sure is happy today but, as you may recall, she wasn't so happy when she was profiled in 3 On Your Side's first news report.
"Money doesn't grow on trees. This hurt. This hurt," she told us.
Less than two weeks ago, Linda explained to 3 On Your Side how she handed over a check for more than $2,100 to a company called T & M Air Solutions.
The $2,100 was a down payment for a new $4,000 air conditioner that T & M Air Solutions was supposed to install on her home. However, a day after T & M Air Solutions cashed the check they stopped contacting Linda so she contacted 3 On Your Side.
"I'd like for Gary to chase their butts down until they give me the money back to me," she told 3 On Your Side in the first news report.
You may recall that we went to every listed address the company had. One was a mail drop at an East Valley UPS store. However, we did find out T & M Air Solutions went by another business name called Zen Air Services in Scottsdale.
Although we found their business door open, everything inside was basically wiped out.
Our persistence apparently paid off because after all of our visits, Linda says she got a phone call the next day from the company owner who claimed to have seen my 3 On Your Side report.
Linda says she was given a lot of excuses by the owner, but more importantly, she was also given money orders totaling $2,150, which is the exact amount she thought she would never see again.
"The bottom line is, I got my money back. Gary Harper is the guy to make it all happen for you and he did," she says.
Although the owners of T & M Air Solutions, or Zen Air Services, reportedly saw the first news report and they knew this story would be airing tonight they still have yet to contact 3 On Your Side.
Linda's story is a good reminder of the dangers of giving a down payment when it comes to hiring a contractor. Remember to always be careful when giving money up front.
