MESA, Ariz. – Police are searching for two men who were allegedly involved in a deadly shooting outside a Mesa convenience store over the weekend.

Police said it happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday at the Circle K at Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive.

According to investigators, the 30-year-old victim had gone into the store to buy a drink. As he was leaving, two men approached him. An argument ensued.

That argument escalated into a physical fight between the victim and one of the men. That fight ended in gunfire.

Paramedics did their best to save the man, but he died in the parking lot. Detectives have not released his name.

Police said the shooter fled the scene on foot while the second man left in a light-colored four-door sedan. Although police spent hours searching the area, they came up empty and both men are still on the loose.

Sgt. Ed Wessing of the Mesa Police Department said investigators have very few details and need the public’s help to track down the suspects.

The shooter is described as a white male in his late 20s. He’s about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has brown hair and was wearing dark shorts. He did not have a shirt on. Wessing said investigators believe the man has tattoos on both of his arms and his upper chest.

Police do not have any description of the man who left in the sedan.

Wessing said detectives still do not know if the victim and the suspects knew each other, nor do they know what sparked the argument and subsequent fight.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
