Authorities say a dust storm in the area had reduced visibility to near zero

"There was a car that was completely on fire in the middle lane.  I was maybe the third or fourth car involved," said witness Nathan Dewitt.  "It was definitely weather related, there was a crazy dust storm going on.  I could only see maybe 5 or 10 feet in front of me."

Two injured were flown to University Medical Center a third was transported to UMC by ambulance.

Officers completely shut down I-10 and traffic was re-routed at mile post 226.
