TUSD board votes out President StegemanPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- It's been a difficult year for the Tucson Unified School District. It's fighting to save its Ethnic Studies program. It's closing schools in light of fewer students. It's had to lay off teachers in unprecedented numbers.
And Tuesday night, there is clear evidence of in-fighting among the five people elected to run the district.
Another TUSD board meeting, another big issue. This time witin its own members.
Tuesday night by 3 to 2 vote, TUSD President Mark Stegeman was removed by the position of president for what some of the board called a lack of leadership ability. We caught up with some of them after the vote including Stegeman himself.
This issue began to gain traction after very heated board meetings surrounding the Ethnic Studies program and also when a man apparently brought a knife with him to the meeting and threatened grijalva a month ago.
They said Stegeman's inability to control the situation led to this vote.
