D-backs trade Johnson to Toronto for 2 infieldersPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded second baseman Kelly Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays for infielders Aaron Hill and John McDonald.
Arizona also placed right-hander Jason Marquis on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right fibula on Tuesday.
Johnson, eligible for free agency after the season, has struggled at the plate this year, hitting .209 with 132 strikeouts and 18 homers.
Hill, who will fill Johnson's spot at second, is hitting .225, but was second among all second basemen with 62 homers from 2009-10.
McDonald is expected to help Willie Bloomquist at shortstop with Stephen Drew on the disabled list with a broken right ankle. McDonald hit .250 in 65 games with Toronto this season.
