CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler police arrested a woman and her boyfriend on child abuse charges after Child Protective Services received a tip about an injured 4-year-old boy.

Detectives arrested Melissa Chambers, 22, and Travis Darrah, 26, on Wednesday. They were each charged with one count of child abuse and booked into the Maricopa County Jail. Chambers was also charged with one count of hindering prosecution.

They have since been released from jail.

On July 13, CPS contacted the Chandler Police Department after receiving an anonymous tip that the boy was at a local hospital with a leg fracture and other injuries, according to Detective Seth Tyler. The tipster said the injuries were the result of ongoing abuse.

“As in many abuse cases, the child victim in this incident had evidence of injuries from past abuse,” Tyler said in a news release.

The boy is in the care of CPS.

The Chandler Police Department urges everyone to report suspicion of abuse to their local law enforcement agency or to CPS.
