PD: Man shot girlfriend, himself in Scottsdale homePosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE , Ariz. -- Two bodies were found at a home in a wealthy Scottsdale neighborhood on Thursday and police are now calling it a murder-suicide.
Investigators were called to the scene early Thursday afternoon.
Homicide detectives said there were "obvious signs of trauma" to the man and woman found dead at the home near Shea Boulevard and Hayden Road.
Officers said the bodies were discovered by someone who arrived at the home Thursday morning to apply for a job as a personal assistant.
Police said they received calls about gunshots in the neighborhood Wednesday night, but a responding officer could not determine where the shots came from.
On Friday, police said it appears that Steven C. Lester, 60, called his longtime girlfriend, Vanessa Klein, 24, to come over to his home sometime Wednesday evening. Lester confronted her at the door and shot her multiple times then turned the gun on himself.
A handgun belonging to Lester was found near his body, according to police.
The medical examiner’s office will rule on the exact cause and manner of death at a later date.
