Man arrested for alleged sex acts with 10-year-old girlPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – What started out as a child pornography investigation led to the arrest of a Phoenix man for allegedly committing sex acts with a 10-year-old girl.
According to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson, detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) served a search warrant at the West Phoenix home of James Christopher Contreras Wednesday morning.
The intent was to recover child pornography from that home, which is located near 63rd Avenue and Thomas Road.
Police arrested Contreras after they discovered that he did, in fact, have child pornography in his possession, Thompson said.
During the course of their investigation, Thompson said Contreras admitted to detectives that he had committed numerous sex acts with a 10-year-old girl.
Contreras, 34, has been booked into Maricopa County Jail. He faces one count of sexual conduct with a minor and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Contreras has not made his initial appearance before a judge yet, so the issue of bail has not been addressed at this point.
Investigators have not said what led them to Contreras in the first place nor have they disclosed how Contreras was acquainted with his alleged victim.
Created in 1998, the ICAC program is a nation network of coordinated task forces involved more than 3,000 federal, state and local law-enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. Since it was formed, ICAC looked into more than 236,000 complaints and arrested nearly 24,000 individuals.
