Arrest made in fatal stabbing at Mesa motel

MESA, Ariz. – An arrest has been made following a fatal stabbing almost two weeks ago.

Mesa police arrested Christopher Adam Ross, 29, for allegedly stabbing Johann Ruekert to death in a Mesa apartment on Aug. 5 at the Rawls Motel located in the 1300 block of W. Main Street.

The arrest was a result of DNA evidence gathered at the scene.

Police had not identified any suspects in this case until DNA evidence from the crime scene was processed.

Detectives located Ross at his home in Apache Junction on Tuesday and arrested him without incident that evening in connection with the fatal stabbing.

He now faces one count of first-degree murder, one count of burglary and one count of robbery.

Police say Ross has not admitted to his involvement in Ruekert’s murder.
