PHOENIX - One of two suspects in the brutal beating of a Valley grandfather was released from jail and is not facing any charges.

Avondale police say James Fournier, 57, was beaten to death in front of his wife and grandson Saturday in a shopping center near Dysart Road and Van Buren Street.

Police say it happened after Fournier got into a fight with a taxi cab driver named Gary Mayo, who nearly ran into Fournier's vehicle.

Fournier's family says they're in shock over his death.

Tuesday night, Avondale police told 3TV that Shawn King, who was a passenger in the taxi cab and originally accused in the beating, will likely be released from jail and not face charges.

King was released Thursday morning.

Mayo, meanwhile, is being held on $750,000 bond. He faces first-degree murder charges.
