New HOV lanes open on Loop 101Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Nearly five miles of new high occupancy vehicle lanes are now open eastbound on the Loop 101.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says the new section runs between Seventh Street and State Route 51 connecting to the existing HOV lanes just east of State Route 51.
ADOT says it marks a milestone in the $90 million Agua Fria Freeway HOV-lane construction project, which began in January 2011 and is scheduled for completion this fall.
The project involves building 30 miles of east- and westbound HOV lanes on the Agua Fria Freeway between Interstate 10 and State Route 51.
The project includes an additional travel lane in each direction along Loop 101 under Interstate 17 and widening freeway bridges at 19th, 31st and 35th avenues.
