Arizona move to Hi Corbett a competitive playPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- It started in January with a visit by the U of A athletics administration and culminated Wednesday in an announcement that Arizona Athletics has an agreement in place with the city of Tucson to move Wildcat baseball to Hi Corbett field
At the end of the day one of the big factors in making this move is to give Coach Andy Lopez and his staff an advantage in attracting high school baseball stars to come play for his program.
A recruits choice often comes down to the facilities present to him.
"I use this analogy all the time. If I put a family van I my front driveway or I put a corvette and I have gas in both of them and air conditioning in both of them and I say to go pick up grandma at the airport, I guarantee my kids are going to get in the corvette. And they're gonna try to figure out how to put grandma in the trunk. They are not going to take the family van," said Coach Andy Lopez.
The move by the Wildcats comes on the heels of an announcement last week by rival Arizona State that the sun devils have been contacted by the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball team about partnering in a new baseball complex in Mesa.
U of A doing it's due diligence to make sure they keep up with their Pac-12 colleagues in terms of facilities.
