CHANDLER, Ariz. - An alert police officer's quick reaction led to the arrest of a kidnapping suspect early Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. officers were called to the area of Ray Road and State Route 87 for the report of a kidnapping.

Officers were told that Salvador Ortiz Reyes, 32, forced his live-in girlfriend into a gold Dodge passenger car and fled the scene.

Chandler patrol officers were provided a description of the vehicle and Reyes in an attempt to locate the victim.

About an hour later, a patrol officer observed a gold Dodge passenger car drive by his location and heard screaming from inside the car.

The officer stopped the vehicle and Reyes was taken into custody.

The woman was treated for minor injuries.

She told police Reyes drove her throughout Chandler, threatening to kill her and at one point Reyes stopped the vehicle and ordered her out. She complied and begged Reyes not to kill her.

Reyes was heading back to the victim's residence when the patrol officer made the stop and arrest.

Reyes was booked into jail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating, and theft.
