$229M Powerball winner bought ticket in Minnesota, 2 Ariz. tickets won $10KPosted: Updated:
ROSEVILLE, Minn. (AP) -- Someone who bought a Powerball ticket in Minnesota is suddenly very rich.
The state lottery says a ticket sold for Wednesday night's drawing hit the jackpot of nearly $229 million. Minnesota Lottery spokeswoman Debbie Hoffmann says she should know the community where the ticket was sold later Thursday.
Hoffman says the winner or winners have the option of taking about $123 million in cash now, otherwise the jackpot is paid over 30 years. Most of the winners in recent years have opted for the lump-sum payout.
The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night are 11, 18, 36, 41, 46 and the Powerball is 38.
The odds of winning the grand prize are about 1 in 195,249,054.
Two tickets sold in Arizona matched four numbers plus the red Powerball. Those two tickets are worth $10,000 each.
More than 200 Arizona tickets won prizes of at least $100. Those winners who chose the Power Play option will take home a bit more. The Power Play multiplier for Wednesday's drawing was four.
Thousands of more Arizonans are holding tickets worth anywhere from $3 to $28 each.
Powerball is played in a total of 42 states plus Washington D.C. and the US Virgin Islands.
The jackpot now resets to $20 million for Saturday's drawing.
