Child dies after found in tubPosted: Updated:
SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. - An 8-month-old child has died a day after being found floating in a bathtub.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office received a call from a home in San Tan Valley from a woman reporting that her neighbor had rushed over with her baby girl.
The child was not breathing and blue in color after the mother discovered her floating facedown in a bathtub.
When deputies arrived, neighbors were performing CPR, but were unable to establish a pulse. Paramedics took over CPR but were also unsuccessful in reviving the baby.
The child's mother, Patreesa Schettler, told deputies she was giving her daughter a bath and turned to grab a towel. She turned back to find Chevelle floating facedown in the water. That is when she grabbed the child and rushed next door.
Schettler's toddler-aged son was in another room and the father was working in Florence.
Chevelle was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to Cardon Children's Medical Center in Mesa where doctors stabilized her but weren't able to get her breathing on her own. She was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon.
PCSO are investigating the incident.
