Valley program designed to prevent child abuse, neglect helps families

PHOENIX – The brutal death of a 10-year-old girl, allegedly at the hands of her own family and after repeated incidents of mistreatment -- has heightened awareness of child abuse in the Phoenix metro area.

There’s a program here in the Valley designed to help head child abuse and neglect by visiting the homes of families with newborns and providing them with counseling and advice and helping them navigate the community.

The Healthy Families program, which is recognized as one of the best of its kinds in the entire country, is meant primarily for at-risk families but it’s available to anyone.

Pregnant women and families with newborns younger than 90 day are eligible, and there are not income restrictions.
