Monsoon break

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- An excessive heat warning continues today for Southwestern Arizona, including Yuma.  The National Weather Service in Phoenix, however, has decided to cancel the warning for the Phoenix metro area and portions of Pinal County.

Thanks to Wednesday night's surprise thunderstorms, overnight lows dropped to the 70s Thursday morning.

Under mostly sunny skies, afternoon highs are expected to top out near 108 degrees today and through the weekend, as well.  Overnight lows stay fairly warm in the mid 80s.

The threat of thunderstorms returns to the forecast early next week.
