Meet mayoral candidates for city of Phoenix

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX - Early voting in the Phoenix mayoral election is just days away and candidates are ramping up their efforts to get out the vote.

Six candidates are facing off to replace Mayor Phil Gordon who is term-limited after serving two four-year terms. That's more than have run in the last two mayoral elections.

Turnout for mayoral elections has been traditionally on the low side, with less than 19 percent of registered voters turning out in 2007 and 21 percent casting ballots in 2003.

This year's crowded field means candidates are vying for every single vote.

The mayor of Phoenix' official responsibilities include running the agenda at city council meetings, and appointing members of boards and commissions.

The mayor also works with the city council to appoint the city manager. The city manager is then responsible for most of the hiring within the city.

The six candidates are:

Anna Brennan

Wes Gullett

Claude Mattox

Peggy Neely

Greg Stanton

Jennifer Wright

You can watch all six candidates face off on 3TV's Politics Unplugged this Sunday evening.

Also on the ballot are two propositions.

Election day is Tuesday, August 30. To find your polling location or to request an early ballot, click here.
