Tucson teacher arrested in child pornography casePosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A Tucson elementary school teacher is in custody in connection with a child pornography investigation.
Tucson police say 44-year-old Joseph Chanecka surrendered at police headquarters Friday. He's been booked into the Pima County Jail on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Police say Chanecka is a fourth-grade teacher at Van Buskirk Elementary School.
In late May, detectives in the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit say they received a report that Chanecka allegedly had images of child porn on his home computer.
Search warrants were served at his residence and at the school. Police say thousands of child pornography images were recovered.
An arrest warrant was issued for Chanecka on June 22, but police say he left the country for several weeks. It's unclear whether he has a lawyer.
