Child playing with matches cause of Tempe house firePosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. - A child playing with matches is suspected to be the cause of a house fire in Tempe on Thursday.
Tempe firefighters responded to a house fire in the neighborhood southeast of the intersection of McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road.
Investigators found the fire was apparently set by a five-year-old who had been playing with matches.
The boy's grandmother and the boy escaped the house, with the assistance of a neighbor.
They suffered minor injuries escaping the fire.
It appears the house is a total loss.
The fire was contained to the home and didn't spread to any neighboring homes.
