Deadly Women kicking off fifth season

PHOENIX – “Deadly Women” is a hit television series that follows the stories of women who kill.

Candice DeLong, an author and decorated FBI profiler, is the host of the show, which is premiering its fifth season Friday night.

According to its website, “’Deadly Women’ fuses bone-chilling story-telling, sumptuous period drama and forensic fact in a bid to explore history's most alluring female killers. Each episode profiles four famous cases from the past; killers and their victims are brought to life by elaborate dramatized reconstructions.”

DeLong, who was a psychiatric nurse for 10 years before being recruited by the FBI, joined Kaley O’Kelley live via satellite to talk about the show, as well as the differences between men who kill and women who kill.

“When men kill, generally speaking – not always, of course – we see the motivation as being anger or jealousy or, a lot of times, macho stuff,” she explained. “When women kill, generally the murder itself serves a purpose. They want that person dead for a reason. The murders tend to be premeditated, and oftentimes the motivation behind it is profit … .”

DeLong said there are also many cases of female nurses who kill their patients.

The first show of this season focuses on women who kill for thrills.

“Deadly Women” is on the Investigation Discovery channel.
