Police: Man purposely runs over two dogs, killing them

PHOENIX -  George Guzman is in the Fourth Avenue Jail, accused of driving drunk then running over two dogs, dragging them then watching as they both died.

One of the dogs belonged to his neighbor and the other was his own.

Police say neighbors called them shortly after Guzman began tearing down Tonto Street, between 21st and 22nd Avenues Monday night in his Firebird.

"He should be careful. This time it was dogs but next time, it could be kids," said one witness.

Guzman's ex-wife, Alice, says he actually loves animals, though. "They're making him out to be a monster, but he's not.  He's a good person," she said.

Guzman is facing 10 counts including criminal damage, animal cruelty, killing an animal without the owner's consent and extreme DUI.

If he makes the $9,800 bond, the judge mandated that he cannot use drugs or alcohol and has to stay away from all animals, especially dogs.
