Fast and Furious hearing in DCPosted: Updated:
Apologies Tuesday from high-ranking federal agents for a controversial gun-running program gone wrong.
Speaking to a congressional hearing, current and former officials with the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives insisted they launched "Operation Fast and Furious" in 2009 with the best of intentions.
ATF allowed hundreds of weapons to flow from Arizona into Mexico with the goal of tracing them to drug cartels.
But they now admit to losing track of many of the firearms, including two found last december at the scene of the shootout that killed border agent Brian Terry near Nogales.
