Tucson homes evacuated during standoff; North side bank robbed

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A couple of east side homes were evacuated when a suicidal man barricaded himself inside his house.

Around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, Tucson police responded to a neighborhood near golf links and bonanza after receiving a 911 call from a man threatening to kill himself.

Officers say the man refused to come out, so they had to call in hostage officers.

"That person was not responsive to them, was not responding to their commands was not engaging in a constructive conversation with them and essentially was not surrendering," said Sgt. Matt Ronstadt from the Tucson Police Department.

The stand off ended with the man shooting himself and then being rushed to the hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- A bank robber hit the Wells Fargo on Swan and Sunrise Tuesday afternoon.  It happened at 1 O'Clock.

The man took off running northeast of the bank.

The robber is white, 5'7" with a medium build and was wearing a black shirt and black cap with a handkerchief on his face.
