Stormy weekend?Posted: Updated:
PHEONIX -- The chance of monsoon storms returns to the Valley this weekend.
Friday should stay dry, with mostly sunny skies and an afternoon high of 106 degrees.
By Saturday, a ridge of high pressure centered to our east starts to shift west, and the clockwise flow of air arount that high advects monsoon moisture over Mexico into Arizona. At the same time, Hurricane Dora moves north along the Baja coast. While the National Hurricane Center's forecast takes the storm out into the open Pacific without making landfall, the storm should come close enough to bring us a surge of moisture into the Gulf of California and eventually into Arizona.
The Valley has about a 20-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Saturday and an even better chance on Sunday.
Temperatures this weekend will top out near 103 to 105 degrees.
