How to choose the right beer for your dinner menu

PHOENIX - This week Rico’s American Grill is hosting a Beer for Brains Foundation event featuring a six-course dinner and beer pairings from four Arizona breweries.

Why beer pairing with food?  Rico’s Chef Kenneth Arneson says it’s just another way to indulge the tastebuds.

“Many people are familiar with wine dinners and wine pairings,” he said. “However in the last few years the popularity of beer dinners and beer pairings has exploded due to one simple fact, beer is food.”

Arneson says also there are no boundaries when it comes to pairing and contrasting beer and food because it is made out of the very basic building blocks of food. Grain, Wheat, Water, and Natural flavorings like hops.

“The menu for this Beer for Brains event is a great example of how versatile and imaginative you can be when pairing beer with food, especially since we paired 12 different beers with the menu and it all works deliciously with the great cuisine,” Arneson adds.

Rico’s American Grill teamed up with Sun Up Brewing Co., SanTan Brewing Co., Grand Canyon Brewing Co. and Sonoran Brewing Co. to create a menu that is skillfully paired with local beers.
The Beer for Brains Foundation is a Peoria-based non-profit that brings together craft beer lovers in the battle against brain cancer.

The Beer for Brains Foundation was founded by Louis and Laurie Dolgoff to raise public awareness and proceeds for brain cancer research through large-scale craft beer appreciation and fundraising events. Proceeds raised by Beer for Brains are donated to the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center (BBTRC) in Phoenix.

The event will be held on Thursday July 28.  For more information go to
