Raytheon summer camp for girls at UAPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Math, science and girls. It's a combination that decreases after middle school.
So engineers from Raytheon put on a girls-only summer camp Tuesday at the U of A's Flandrau Science Center to explain the importance both studies have on our lives and to get ladies interested in the topics.
"Numerous studies have shown that girls tend to lose interest in math and science during middle school so we're trying to reach them between ages 11-14," said Raytheon Engineer Karen Christensen.
Girls spent Tuesday designing their own airplane gliders and then got to test them outside on the softball fields.
