No felony charge for woman accused of groping TSA agent
Yukari Miyamae By Jennifer Thomas
PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Attorney's Office says that no felony charges will be filed against a Colorado woman accused of groping a Transportation Security Administration agent in Phoenix.
After initially reviewing the case against Yukari Miyamae, 61, the county attorney determined that a felony charge was not warranted. The case was referred to the Phoenix city prosecutor for review and possible charging as a misdemeanor.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, Miyamae entered a screening area at Sky Harbor International Airport Thursday afternoon. She became argumentative and refused to go through the body scanner, saying she was afraid of getting cancer.
Miyamae commutes from Colorado to Phoenix every week for her job as a translator.
During the argument, Miyamae reportedly grabbed the TSA employee's breast.
Police said she admitted to the groping and was placed under arrest. She was released from jail Friday morning.
Miyamae claimed she was the real victim and she is getting a lot of support on Facebook from people who do not approve of airport screening procedures. Some people, however, say the procedures are necessary.
