MESA, Ariz. - A man was taken into custody after threatening his wife at her place of business.

On Monday evening, officers responded to an emergency call about a man identified as Mario Madrigal threatening his wife with a gun.

Madrigal left the area before police arrived at the business near Gilbert and Broadway roads.

Police determined Madrigal and his wife had an argument earlier in the day at her place of employment. He returned with a handgun and told his wife that if she didn't kill him, he would kill her.

He placed the handgun on the counter in front of his wife during the threat. She then took the gun and placed it under the counter and after a brief struggle she was able to leave and call police.

Officers tracked Madrigal down at his residence where he surrendered without incident. He was taken into custody and booked on numerous domestic violence related charges.
