PHOENIX – One man and three minors  were arrested for attempted armed burglary at the home of a man who is applying to become a medical marijuana grower.

Phoenix police responded to the 5100 block of N. 11th Avenue on Thursday at about 5:30 p.m. after a caller reported seeing several men force their way into an apartment.

The police department’s air unit was deployed and all four suspects were located as they attempted to flee the scene towards the light rail station on Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road.

The 71-year-old victim told officers he had applied for a medical marijuana card and was seeking approval from the state to grow marijuana.

Detectives say the four suspects targeted the victim because they knew he had applied for a marijuana card as both a patient and a grower.

Three of the suspects are underage and are only described as two Hispanic males and one black male. The fourth suspect is an 18-year-old man named Shaldon M. Patterson.

All four suspects were arrested and face burglary and criminal damage charges.
