Arizona teens complete summer medical programPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Saturday was a big day for a group of local teens who graduated from a medical summer program this morning.
Thirty-five high schools from across the state participated in this year's med-start program.
The program reaches out to minorities on the possibilities of pursuing a career in medicine.
"When you think of medicine you think, 'Oh, I'm just gonna be a doctor or a nurse,' and Med-Start opens the possibility to so much more things, so it was like an opportunity to see what else is out there, to see what else you could do," said program graduate Elisa Jauregui.
Med-Start started in 1969 at the U of A College of Medicine, and has already expanded with a second class in Phoenix.
