ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. (AP) -- Deputies in Pinal County have seized more than 1,800 pounds of marijuana they found in an abandoned pickup in a remote area west of Arizona City.
Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney says a tip led deputies from Pinal and Maricopa counties to the crew-cab truck on Monday. It was found about 8 miles south of Interstate 8 in the rugged Vekol Valley. The area is a well-known smuggling corridor.
The truck's cab and bed were packed with bales of marijuana. It appeared it had recently been abandoned and at least three occupants had fled into the desert.
The marijuana had a street value of more than $1 million.
The truck had been reported stolen from a Glendale resident.
