SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A 5-year-old girl is fighting for her life after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a Scottsdale school.

According to firefighters, the little girl was swimming with classmates Monday afternoon at Rancho Solano Private School at 56th Street and Greenway Road.

Rescue crews believe a medical condition, possibly some kind of seizure, might have caused the little girl to slip under the water. It's not clear how long she was under.

A lifeguard reportedly was on duty at the time of the incident. That lifeguard pulled the girl from the pool and administered CPR.

Other adults were at the pool at the time, as well.

Firefighters were told the little girl does know how to swim.

The girl reportedly did not have a pulse when emergency crews arrived on the scene. They were able to get her heart beating again.

The child was taken to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. At last check, she remained in critical condition in the ICU.

Her name has not been released.
